I work for the Sentinel Project, an NGO dedicated to assisting communities threatened by mass atrocities worldwide. We do this by focusing on direct cooperation with the people in harm's way and the innovative use of appropriate technologies. One of our most successful projects is the Una Hakika (Swahili for "Are you sure?") initiative in Kenya, which is a mobile phone-based information service that monitors and counters the spread of misinformation linked to intercommunal conflict. We're now expanding this within Kenya and replicating it in Burma (Myanmar) as the Peaceful Truth project. Topics I like talking about include using mobile technology for violence prevention, misinformation management, and using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs or drones) for humanitarian purposes.
